Caterpillars In My Plumerias
Yesterday, was held, A National Day of Prayer. We are still in our 3rd lockdown, and in A State of Emergency here in Trinidad and Tobago.
❧✿❧
And, there are caterpillars in my plumerias. I did googling on Caterpillars and found some interesting info:
The life cycle of Caterpillar symbolizes times when you're dealing with potential and transformation. Caterpillars are associated with good luck and new birth. The caterpillar represents new birth and new foundation and is a symbol of good luck in the early phase of new actions. Caterpillars usually signify a need for gentle and quiet approaches to our activities and endeavors. The caterpillar spirit animal teaches you the importance of patience. You need to wait .When this spirit guide finds its way into your life, you achieve steady progress in everything you do. Yes, you may be a bit slow, but your progress is steady and admirable.

Haibun Monday 5-24-21: Flower moon
Decked in our 'glad to be out of the house wear'. We sit around tables in the church yard. The plates and cups are made of plastic, so are the forks and spoons. But the table cloths are of the kind, if you spill anything on it, i will have have to be put in the washer, to be laundered and then it must be ironed.
Most of us know one another. A few have brought in a sister or brother, neighbour or a friend. It's a bright night and we sit in an uncovered space, the car park. The old church at that time is still with us, and we pray fervently for our new refurbished church at every opportunity we come together.
How come there is that large lamp over there? The Park and the police station are that way.

Oh, those are magnificent caterpillars, dear Gillena!
ReplyDeleteDo you know what butterflies it will turn out to be? I hope they don't eat your plants. You may be able to release them into the wild, I'll do that with some bugs here that ruin my roses. I hope in your lockdown you can at least leave the house for such purposes? I wish you that things will soon be better in Trinidad and Tobago too and that you will be able to move more freely again.
Stay healthy!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
All the best from Austria

Happy you dropped by Traude. This is what i found online about these caterpillars...
ReplyDeleteThe larvae of the frangipani moth, also known as Pseudosphinx tetrio. In the island of Martinique they are also referred to as Rasta caterpillars because of their colouring. Plumeria caterpillar feeds on the plumeria tree which produces a poisonous sap, the caterpillar is not harmed by feeding thus, rather it makes itself toxic and foul tasting to predators. After gorging itself it drops to the ground and buries itself beneath the soil, later to emerge as large Hawk Moths

Thanks for the information, dear Gillena!
ReplyDeleteI had to take a look at the Frangipani moth on the internet - the caterpillar looks a lot nicer and more spectacular than the moth itself. The term Rasta caterpillars is funny! :-DD I also hope that they do not cause too much damage to your plants :-)
Hugs, Traude
The plumerias are a hardy bunch, after tge caterpillar's feast, tgey will be trimmed and in no time at at all the will spring up leafy and then blossom

Those are gorgeous caterpillars! There are so many I can't imagine they won't do a lot of damage! The tomato hornworm is a kind of hawk moth too. I've "raised" one and seen it bury itself in the soil. Different from butterflies. I would suggest NOT taking them elsewhere! I've read cases where people do that and 1- they starve for lack of proper food (they can't eat just any greenery) and 2- it introduces a pest to other areas that may be pest free, like city parks where people put caterpillars. I love the positive symbolism. Waiting, hmmm... now, where have I read something about waiting recently? Something coming up on Wednesday? What a coincidence!
ReplyDeleteI meant to say that I had no idea you were in a State of Emergency! I haven't heard a thing about it. The news seems to just focus on India or how great it is in the US (which it isn't, although better). Keep safe!

They have found something GOOD to eat! They are pretty but I'm sure they can eat a plant up in no time. I'm keeping you and everyone in your country in my prayers. It's so frightening when the numbers go up. Take care and stay safe my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane. Happy you dropped by

“And, there are caterpillars in my plumerias.”
ReplyDeleteI don’t know why, I just love that sentence. :)
Isn’t that the truth about tablecloths?! I have one out for 5 minutes, and someone spills something on it.

From your comments I see that beautiful caterpillars become ugly moths; nature has a sense of humor--as do you with your last line.

Gillena - I am conditioned by my father to think of caterpillars as the enemy, but I attended a conservation gardening webinar this week and it really helped me come to accept that caterpillars (or other insects/creatures) who feast on native plants are part of the natural ecosystem that we should not disturb. So I was glad to hear that you accept them on your plumeria. (Caterpillars on tomato plants would be a different story since tomato plants are not native in my area!) Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, and you continue to be on my prayer list for a rapid resolution to the pandemic for your country.

Oh, the caterpillars are really a danger for the leaves in the garden. I remembering on our appletree with such caterpillars, we picked each of them from the tree.
