ODE TO A TREE
The avocado tree stood giant-like,
In a corner of the old backyard.
Welcoming our new family stoic-like.
Tall and leafy, a healthy sturdy tree.
And in her own time, fruited giant-like.
Fruit to the size of Paradise she gifted.
Pear shaped and shared to neighbours alike.
Sad to say she was cut down without a doubt.
Even a tree old at heart decays, sad-like.
A slice of trunk remains as chopping board,
Emblem of friendship, of a tree giant-like.

yes, the revelations of a life - from already sort of established to the fruiting of its labours, and despite of its natural (as in, it has to recycle itself eventually) what I really like is that there remains, how wonderfully! more than the stump, which will also, over time return to the earth - but for the moment, there is a token, a cutting board - which offers practical necessities, but also serves as a reminder, of the precious journey of all the lives shared and touched by it!
ReplyDeletehow wonderful Gillena!

Thanks, Gillena. It gives a better place among the trees once we understand it's place. I've not seen an avacado tree, and didn't know the avacado grew on a tree.
