PICASSO-SQUE MOUTHS
when they scrape the carcass
freshly butchered off the streets
of hatred
and i have to read and i have to watch
newsreel and newsprint
the picasso-sque mouths of mothers
and fathers gaping in horror
and the marrow in my
bones gash and shudder
cause no more is there brother
or brother or sister
then only the words of a song
or the words of a prayer
hones my sorrow
urging me to carry on yet

Poems In April DAY ELEVEN 'A Message from the Little Grandmother'
April is the month of the Pink Moon. This Moon has a dark star, which shines across the abyss, reminding us that we are made of the same stuff as the stars. That's what keeps us looking up, into the heavens, feeling our connection to the unfathomable beauty and mystery of the spheres.
CHALLENGE: Write about how you manage to maintain that balance, how you hold onto the beauty and the hope. Write about what heals you...
This is beautiful...Gillena :D
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the images that you have painted here with reference to the song! Very innovative :D

"Only the words of a song or the words of a prayer hones my sorrow". So beautiful, Gillena. The image of someone scraping a carcass off the street sears the brain and is a powerful reminder that more humans need to turn to prayer than ever before. Thank you for this beautiful poem.

urging me to carry on yet"... speaks sweetly to that inner place. Lovely Gillena

I have liked that song for a long time. "Years" ago I sang in a men's chorus and we sang that song a lot when we performed. It is very comforting. Thank you, Gillena.

LOVE. This poem makes a prayer necessary--just in case the news and life didn't make it clear. Thank you. And thank you for the hymn.

"PICASSO-SQUE MOUTHS" What an apt description of the pain we see on those who suffer such loss. It is prayer that keeps us sane in all the insanity.
ReplyDeleteYou took me away to another world!
