 Hands Emgaged Love Language

Coconut grated on a tin grater

Enough water added

Coconut milk squeezed

Through fine cotton cloth

Sugar stirred into coconut milk

Boiled, until thickened and pastey

Maybe chocolate could be added

Or maybe ginger

Beat beat beat thicken some more

Thick enough to scoop out

Onto a flat surface

Perhaps a large plate

Cut into squares when cool enough

A snack, a delight for children cherished

  1. The craft of cookery is a special one, into which we pour love. I enjoy cooking with my grandsons, ‘a snack, a delight for children cherished’.

  2. Gillena, your coconut sweets and how they come to be makes them extra special. I will take them any way you make them. YUM! I'm thinking coconuts grow where you live so they are nice and fresh and juicy.

  4. I enjoy how the final lines reveal the emotional resonance crafting a desert has for readers like me: a simple culinary act that becomes a cherished childhood delight, blending craft and memory.

  5. OH MY ~~ a recipe for me!! If I don't have a real coconut for the milk, will high quality coconut milk in a can work? I love your poem, Gillena.
