Monday WRites 259

[In today's mosaic 2 words and neem leaves]

NEW WORLD BEHIND THE MASK
Bared lips ruby red and for the daring, dark shades easing into black. They showed their souls when they stared, angrily, cheerfully, tentatively.

This was the world of the western patterns, wild women who stood up to everything. Were there a cause, their uncoverd lips spewed criticism.

Clearly audibly words left their lips.; like the singing of psalms, sometimes reverently. When it is over said and done, it was a time and there was never enough of it.

It all happened so quickly though, the muffled voices behind the masks. The necessary cordorning of space. A sentence of worldwide meter. Man women and child speaking now behind the mask.

  9. Thanks for your story. The new world of masks is certainly different, but thank goodness for women who can speak up despite them.

We have always worn masks--we can see them better now.

  15. Your words hole insightful wisdom. Perhaps all this mask wearing is telling us to stop and listen instead of shouting at each other about everything!

  16. With people speaking from behind masks, thus covering part of their expressions, it's even more important to pay attention to the words.

  19. The masks are necessary but, I do miss seeing peoples faces. Masks have been around for a long time in many forms. I now look to the eyes to gauge emotions.
    A timely write.

  22. I like the way you have approached contemporary themes, Gillena, with masks and strong women, and now everyone in masks. I love the phrase ‘A sentence of worldwide meter.’ I agree with Ken about paying attention to words.

  25. One of the main reasons that the burqa is so insidious. When you can't see someone speak and read their expression, you reduce them to something that observes but isn't allowed to take part.

  28. Such a sad statement and true. We find ourselves behind a mask, muffled voices, no smiles...I pray this ends soon.

  33. Your poem has me wondering, Gillena, if perhaps some people don't like to wear masks because their eyes, which bear their soul, are out for the world to behold.
