SHORT VISIT
Protest peeks through the keyhole
For a view of larger 'why didn't they answer'
Why did't they let me in
See now, no one is about
Wait! is that laughter shelved on the mantelpiece?
I searched and searched a long time for this
See now, there it is
Yet, no one is about
Laughter will warm their hearts, when they return
My footsteps retrace to another pace
Where solitude taps its name on the keyboard
And words toss back and forth like ebb tide
When the song of the ocean soothes the soul.

  4. I like it, Gillena. Like she picked a bad night to venture to those expected-to-be-fun places. Think I have those when I was single. Sounds like you might know them also.

  9. I love the images your poem conveys. Reminds me of grandpa's room back in the islands. and the sounds of the waves crashing ashore while he writes in his journals alone in his room. beautiful memories this brings. thanks.

  12. Solitude tapping it's name on a keyboard - marvellous image - and not necessarily lonely not when we have words to keep us company and make things brighter

  14. So much restlessness in waiting for the laughter to return. At least there is solace in knowing where it can be found when needed.
